Is Your Cookware making you sick?

Aluminum, being one of the most abundant resources on earth, is now found in just about everything. Unfortunately in high amounts, like most things, it is toxic to the body. When aluminum comes into direct contact with food, it leaches. Foods with higher acidities, like tomatoes, absorb more. When consumed, aluminum causes oxidative stress on the central nervous system and has been linked to many neurological disorders including ADD, ADHD, chronic fatigue, MS, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease.

Aluminum toxicity symptoms include:
• Fatigue
• Confusion
• Bone pain
• Headaches
• Memory loss
• Tenancies for colds
• Anemia (Certain types)

Ways to avoid exposure:
• Use parchment paper instead of aluminum foil
• Avoid food coming into direct contact with any aluminum pots and pans
• Store food in aluminum free containers
• Avoid food and beverages sold in aluminum
• Be aware of some personal care products like deodorants, tobacco, antacids, vaccines, and prescription medications; aluminum has been found in these products.

Worried about aluminum build up in the body:
• Add foods that chelate aluminum like apples, cilantro, sea vegetables, lemon, garlic, onion, cabbage.
• Add herbs and vitamins that aid in this chelation process like turmeric, vitamin C, malic acid, magnesium, and coriander.
• Take a bath. That’s right! Draw yourself a nice warm bath and add a half a cup of Epson salt. Relax as it helps in the detoxification process.
• Remember to drink water to aid in the flushing out of aluminum.

Over time these will slowly draw aluminum out of our cells and the body will naturally eliminate them. Not to worry, there are always ways to support our health and wellness.
